2026 Guide to Wisconsin Window Tint Laws
Wisconsin's window tint rules sit in Wis. Admin. Code Trans 305.32, with statutory authority in Wis. Stat. § 347.43. The percentages below are minimum VLT (visible light transmission) — the amount of visible light a tinted window must let through.

3% enforcement tolerance
Wisconsin law enforcement officers are required to allow a 3% tolerance when measuring tint with a light meter (Trans 305.32(7)).
Dual side-mirror requirement
If your rear window transmits less than 60% VLT, your vehicle must have functional outside rearview mirrors on both the left and right sides (Trans 305.32(5)(b)3).
Medical exemption
A licensed physician's recommendation can permit darker tint on front side windows. The exemption is documented and applies to the specific driver.
No manufacturer AS-1 mark, no windshield tint
If your windshield doesn't have a manufacturer AS-1 line, no tint film may be applied to it at all under Trans 305.32(4)(c).
